Battle of Corydon Memorial Park - Corydon

Commemorating the only Civil War battle fought on Indiana soil, which took place on July 9, 1863. In hopes reinforcements would arrive and stop Confederate General John Hunt Morgan\'s march through Southern Indiana, 450 members of the Harrison County Home Guard attempted to delay Morgan\'s 2,400 Confederate soldiers. The park is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to dusk.

Fairplay Fire Company Number One - Madison

At the beginning of the Civil War, Indiana\'s oldest volunteer fire company formed the Fairplay Military Company with approximately 40 members eventually serving in various Indiana regiments. Eleven did not survive the war. This fire company was established in 1841.

Fort Knox II - Vincennes, Indiana

One of three forts built and garrisoned by the U. S. Army around 1809. The fort\'s location is outlined with short posts and interpretive markers tell the story of the site.


Fort Vallonia - Vallonia

Vallonia was settled by the French in the late 1700s, and in 1810, General William Henry Harrison ordered a fort to be built to protect the settlers from hostile Native Americans. Today, a replica of Fort Vallonia is a museum and the site of the annual Fort Vallonia Days festival.

George Rogers Clark National Historical Park - Vincennes, Indiana

\"The park features a massive granite memorial commemorating the conquest of the Old Northwest Territory. The Memorial is located on the site of the former British Fort Sackville which was captured by Colonel George Rogers Clark and his army of 170 frontiersmen and Frenchmen. \"

John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail 1863 - Corydon

Travel back to July, 1863 and follow Confederate General John Hunt Morgan and his Raiders on this self-guided driving tour. For six days the raiders rode through Southern Indiana. This raid would be remembered as his Great Raid of 1863. It also was the only major military activity in Indiana during the Civil War. The John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail in Indiana is 185 miles and laid out with directions that are numbered and corresponds with the actual trail sign locations. Tour is free and self-guided. Maps and additional information are available at the Blaine H. Wiseman Visitor Center.

LST 325 - Evansville

ONE OF ITS KIND! The lone operational LST (Landing Ship, Tank) in existence, the LST 325 makes her home in Evansville. This 328 foot, 1,625 ton ship landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day as well as seeing action in other WWII battles. Come meet a true hero and the heroic crew that leads the tours. Call ahead! LST 325 is a moving museum and visits other cities twice a year. Closed on Mondays.

Springdale Cemetery - Madison, Indiana

Springdale Cemetary contain the remains of 300 Madison men who served in the Union Army and two Confederate soldiers, one of whom is buried in the \"Soldiers Section.\"


Whitehall Bed & Breakfast (On the Grounds of a Former Military Hospital) - Madison, Indiana

In 1863, the Whitehall property adjoined a 30 acre military hospital which featured its own bakery, could accommodate 2,000 wounded and sick soldiers and was one of the largest hospital complexes in the west. Federal doctors occupied this large Federal style home.
